ORIENTAL OBSOLETIST EXHIBITION PREMIER
Tampa Museum of Art
November 17 2006
"
The oriental theme of these works hides the fact that they were made from obsolete materials: Vintage aluminum case, bowling bags, luggage and a leather couch. Im calling this idea of using materials that won’t be used in the near future OBSOLETISM, which was my thesis statement at USF. The masks were cold casted from light wieght bronze, aluminum, and nickel powders. These masks were all taken and used @ Burningman at Blackrock, NV. The goggles in the forehead (made our of pill bottles and welding lenses) kept the sand out of the wearers eyes and the material covering the inside of the mouths acted as a dust filter. "
